The small print, in plain words.

How I look after what you tell me, and what we’re each agreeing to. If any of it isn’t clear, ask me. That’s a fair question, not an awkward one.

What I collect

Your name, contact details, and whatever you choose to tell me in session. If you request a session through the website, I also hold the details you typed into the form.

This website holds your booking details, our email correspondence, and the session notes I write about our work together. Those notes stay on this record for ten years, as the law requires. They are not sent by email.

Why I hold it

To provide counselling safely, to keep track of what's helping, to contact you about appointments, and to meet the record-keeping obligations that come with being a counsellor.

Who else sees it

Ordinarily, nobody. What happens in the room stays in the room.

There are three exceptions, and I'd tell you as they happened wherever possible: if I believe someone is at serious risk of harm; if a court or the law requires disclosure; or in professional supervision, where cases are discussed without identifying details. Supervision is a requirement of ethical practice and it makes me better at my job.

If you're seeing me as a couple, I don't keep secrets between you. Anything material that one of you tells me privately, I'll encourage you to bring into the room.

Where it lives

Booking details are held with Supabase, whose servers for this site are in Sydney, Australia. The website itself runs on Vercel, also from Sydney. Payments are processed by Stripe, based in the United States, and email is sent and received through Postmark, also based in the United States. Because some of these providers are based overseas, your information may be processed outside New Zealand as part of running this service.

The email service I use to send you reminders and messages is asked for your email address at the moment an email is sent. It keeps a record of what was sent, and it holds no profile of you.

I don't record sessions, ever.

How long I keep it

Health information is held for ten years from your last session, as New Zealand law requires, then securely destroyed.

Your rights

You can ask to see what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask what's been shared and with whom. Email me and I'll respond within twenty working days. You're welcome to ask for a copy of everything I hold about you at any time.

If you're unhappy with how I've handled your information, you're welcome to raise it with me directly, or with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

This website

The site uses no advertising trackers. I do count page visits and how fast pages load, so I can tell the site is working. The tool sets no cookie and keeps nothing that identifies you, and it runs on the public pages only, never on your booking link, your consent form, or anywhere you are signed in.

If you arrive from one of my ads or links, the site sets a cookie that remembers which one for 90 days and notes it on any booking you make, so I can tell which ads are worth paying for; it stays on this site and is never sent to Facebook or anyone else.

If you send an enquiry or booking request, the details are stored as described above and used only to arrange your session with me.

If you need someone right now

I’m not a crisis service and I can’t respond outside session hours. If you or someone you love is unsafe, call 111, or ring your local Crisis Resolution team. Free counselling is available any time on 1737, by call or text.
