The small print, in plain words.

How I look after what you tell me, and what we’re each agreeing to. If any of it isn’t clear, ask me. That’s a fair question, not an awkward one.

What I offer

Solution-focused counselling for couples, in person in Christchurch. Sessions run fifty minutes; first conversations run fifteen.

Counselling is not medical treatment, psychiatric care, legal advice or a crisis service. If what you need sits outside my scope, I'll say so and help you find the right person.

Booking and fees

Choosing a time on the website books it. Paying the full fee is what confirms the session, so a time is held only for as long as it takes you to pay, and is free for somebody else until you do.

You agree to these terms on the payment page, before you pay. Afterwards I'll ask you to sign a consent form for the counselling itself. That one can wait until before we meet, and it holds nothing up.

The first fifteen-minute conversation is free, and there's no obligation to book anything after it.

Changing or cancelling

Reschedule or cancel free of charge up to twenty-four hours before your session, and I'll move your payment to the new time or refund it. Inside twenty-four hours the fee is not refunded, because the time can rarely be filled.

Life happens: illness, a sick child, a car that won't start. Talk to me and I'll be reasonable.

Turning up

If you're late, we finish at the scheduled time so the next person isn't kept waiting. If I'm ever late, you get the full session or the time back.

I can't work with anyone who arrives affected by alcohol or drugs; the session ends and the fee applies.

Confidentiality

What you say is confidential, with the exceptions set out in the privacy policy. Please extend the same care to each other outside the room.

Contact between sessions

You're welcome to email me about scheduling. I don't provide counselling by email or text, and I may not see messages until the next working day.

Ending

You can stop at any time, without explanation. My intention is brief work. I'll tell you honestly when I think you're good to go, and I'll be here if you need me later.

Concerns

If something about our work doesn't sit right, please tell me first; I'd rather hear it.

If you need someone right now

I’m not a crisis service and I can’t respond outside session hours. If you or someone you love is unsafe, call 111, or ring your local Crisis Resolution team. Free counselling is available any time on 1737, by call or text.
